Homemade Sugar Scrubs for Your Face

sugar for homemade sugar scrubs

You don’t want it in your diet. Eating sugary foods is not good for your skin. But for external skin care – well, that’s a different story. Homemade Sugar Scrubs are wonderful!

When it comes to facial scrubs, as well as scrubs for your body and feet, sugar is a highly desirable ingredient. Sugar is a great exfoliant, helping to brush away old skin cells and expose newer, healthier cells. It also draws moisture into the skin and assists with cell turnover.

You can purchase expensive sugar scrubs. But do you know what you are putting on your skin? Cosmetics are one of the most toxic-laden products on the market today. Take a minute to read the ingredients (you may need a magnifying glass to do so because the print is so small). Or check out EWG.com … Alarmed yet? You should be! Many of the ingredients in cosmetics have been linked to illnesses and other complications.

Moreover, if you’re using anti-aging creams, their ingredients increasingly blur the line between drugs and cosmetics. Cosmetics do not require premarket approval by the FDA, but drugs do. Are they really safe or effective?

STOP! Think before you shell out your hard-earned money. For mere pennies, you can make your own unique scrubs. It’s easy and quick (maybe 10 minutes at most).

Try some of these homemade sugar scrubs that promise to give you a healthy glow.

Anti-Aging Lemon Scrub

Olive oil contains polyphenols and oleic acid, both of which help to combat aging of the skin. Argan oil has high levels of Vitamin E and saponins, both of which help soften skin and reduce the appearance of aging. Essential oil of lemon is a natural skin toner, giving your face a healthy glow.

1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon Argan oil
a few drops of essential oil of lemon*

Mix together and apply it to your face, then leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. You may use a cleansing brush to massage your face but do so gently.

*Keep in mind that cold-pressed lemon essential oil is phototoxic, which means you should avoid excessive sun exposure for 48 hours after using it on your skin.

Coconut Bar Facial Scrub

This recipe smells good enough to eat.

½ cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil
a few drops of olive oil
a few drops of real vanilla extract (or add our own scent by adding a few drops of essential oil)

Thoroughly mix until you have a creamy mixture. Apply 1 tablespoon to your face with your middle finger, so as not to push too hard and damage sensitive facial skin.

When you are finished, gently rinse it off with a warm washcloth and then splash your face with cold water to close your pores.

Store leftover mixture in an airtight jar.

Note: You can also use this scrub for your entire body in the shower. Use about a tablespoonful or more of this mixture to scrub your skin. Rinse well. It will leave your skin feeling like silk.

Soothing Chamomile Oat Sugar Scrub

This is a soothing mixture when your face needs a little extra tender loving care. Oats soften skin, and chamomile is known for its calming properties.

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
a few tablespoons of ground rolled oats
a few tablespoons of strongly brewed chamomile tea.

Toss the oats into your food processor. Grind until the oats are broken up into dust (or tiny pieces).

Transfer oats to a bowl and add the olive oil, brown sugar, and chamomile tea.

Mix well and then apply it to your face. Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.

Geranium Clean Pore Scrub

This scrub gives you a fresh dew-kissed face. Essential oil of geranium is known to help prevent acne breakouts, and it assists in regulating oil production. Hemp oil is non-clogging. It actually works the opposite, helping unclog skin pores. The brown sugar gently scrubs away dead and oil-filled skin cells, thus revealing the healthier skin cells underneath.

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup hemp oil
a few drops of essential oil of geranium

Mix together until you have a creamy consistency. Apply it to your face; leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing. You may use a facial cleansing brush to massage your face, but do so gently.
